Due to the new regulations introduced by the Bavarian Government, we cannot welcome any Vigils in the Shelter on the roof of the Philharmonic Hall for the time being. Needless to say, we are very disappointed. Nevertheless, we invite all Vigils to start the Türmer München project together with us. We have already informed all affected participants by e-mail. You can find details of the changed procedure here.
What does the new Vigil schedule look like?
Your preparatory workshop will take place – although online until further notice – on the date given in the letter you received confirming your registration. We will invite you to this event in a separate e-mail.
Your Companion will call you about two days before your Vigil so that you can get to know each other.
Your Vigil will take place on the date and at the exact time that was given when your registered: one hour starting at sunrise or one hour before sunset. Your Companion will call you on the day 30 minutes before the start of your hour-long performance. We suggest you set an alarm clock for the end of your Vigil that you keep within earshot but out of sight.
Choose a window in your home at which to hold your presence and be part of the performance. Make sure there are no mobile phones, watches or clocks in the room. You can look out and let your gaze and your thoughts wander. You may even notice something new in your surroundings that you were never aware of before. Try to be in position in time for the start of your hour’s presence. When the alarm clock rings, your Vigil is over.
You then take a selfie of yourself and a photo of the view (both of these in landscape format, please). Write down your impressions, feelings and thoughts by hand, including your first name, surname, the date and whether your Vigil was at sunrise or sunset.
Send us your two photos (of yourself and of the view) and a photo of your handwritten notes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We will then publish them in the Türmer blog.
Your Companion will call you again about 30 minutes after the end of your Vigil and you will have the opportunity to share your experience.
After your Vigil, you are welcome to send us your handwritten impressions to the following address for inclusion in the Türmer book:
Gasteig München GmbH
Rosenheimer Straße 5
In the coming months, we will invite you to come with us up to the Gasteig roof and visit the Shelter. We will let you know as soon as this is possible again.
A personal message from Joanne Leighton
As you know we are due to start the Türmer München on this Saturday, 12th of December. We are very much looking forward to this moment. However, due to the current lockdown in Germany, we will have to make a modification until the new sanitary measures arrive.
At the time of your Türmer performance, I invite each of you to hold your presence for the hour whilst standing at a window in your own home. If possible you should be alone, in silence, without any interruption. Thanks to you, the performance won’t be interrupted.
During this time of isolation and in this world-wide crisis, the Türmer performance takes on a new significance, as we watch over and protect each other, forming a chain of humanity and resilience, for 365 days a year. I thank each and every one of you for your commitment. Türmer München is also one of the few live performances that continues un-interrupted over this time.
I personally thank you for your understanding, and I very much look forward to meeting you over this coming year.
I also take this opportunity to wish you much joy and cheer over the Christmas and New Year season, health and happiness to you all!
Joanne Leighton, Choreographer
